History |
The Washington School Counselor Association was founded in 1965, under the direction of Darrell Johnson. The WSCA became a State Division of the American School Counselor Association in 1966. Today, the organization has approximately 1100 members including Professional School Counselors, Counselor Educators, Graduate Students, and Retired School Counselors who make up a diverse and highly skilled professional network. Since the late 1960s the WSCA has served Professional School Counselors in a variety of ways. Approximately 100 school Counselors attended the first conference in 1989. Today, the association continues to demonstrate an emphasis on professional development and in 2018, nearly 970 professionals attended the annual conference. The WSCA continues to serve as an organization that advocates for Professional School Counseling by working professionally with groups such as the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Washington State Board of Education, Educational Service Districts, the Washington Education Association, Washington Parent Teacher Association, Washington Association of School Administrators, and the Association of Washington School Principals. |
