To monitor legislative activity and to represent WSCA and its members’ interests to local, regional and national government entities.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Legislative Action. Prioritize and establish communication about important legislative action impacting school counselors in Washington State.
Organize member participation. Facilitate the development of WSCA members to volunteer to participate in area of interest relating to Policy, Public Relations, and when necessary to promote beneficial legislation.
Correspondence. Correspond with government representatives when appropriate, other organizations involved in similar legislative concerns, and ASCA Government Relations chair.
Events. Organize and coordinate official recognition and acknowledgement from state legislators during National School Counselor Week and Legislative Day in conjunction with other committees and organizations.
Deliverables
Legislative Action. Present a proposal of the highest priority legislative action impacting school counselors.
Organize member participation. Present a proposal of how the committee will promote member participation.
Correspondence. Communicate correspondence with WSCA board, and executive director.
Events. Present proposal for organizing legislative recognition of National School Counselor Week and “Day on the Hill”.
