Recommended 504 Team Planning TemplateIn 2021 the Legislature passed Substitute Senate Bill (SSB) 5030, which clarifies the role of school counselors to align with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model. (See OSPI Bulletin 083-21.) The bill requires districts to develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP) for all its schools. Among other requirements, CSCPs must/should outline the ways in which schools meet Section 504 requirements—in ways that minimize the administrative 504 tasks assigned to school counselors and to maximize the education-related work school counselors have been trained for, including related to Section 504.
